While Akihabara gets the arcade attention, Shinjuku has some of Tokyo’s best game centers. Here’s where to play.
Taito Station Shinjuku East
The flagship Taito Station. Five floors of:
- 2F: Claw machines (UFO catchers) with seasonal prizes
- 3F: Rhythm games (maimai, Chunithm, DanceRush, wacca)
- 4F: Fighting games and retro cabinets
- 5F: Card games and photo booths
Open 24 hours. The claw machine floor is among the best-stocked in Tokyo.
Gigo Shinjuku (formerly Sega)
Three separate Gigo buildings in Shinjuku. The main building (Kabukicho) has:
- Extensive crane game selection
- Latest music games
- Purikura (photo sticker) booths
Game Taisho (ゲームセンター大勝)
In Kabukicho, this multi-floor center leans toward fighting game culture. Locals run sets here at a high level, Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear. If you want to play against skilled opponents, this is the place.
Adores Shinjuku
Near the east exit. Smaller but has a strong selection of classic rhythm games and a quiet atmosphere.
