Odaiba (お台場) is a massive artificial island in Tokyo Bay with entertainment, shopping, and otaku landmarks. Accessible by the driverless Yurikamome line (great views) or the Rinkai line (faster).
The Life-Size Gundam
At DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, a 1:1 scale RX-78-2 Gundam statue stands 18 meters tall. It transforms and lights up on a schedule:
- Daytime: Static, but hourly pose rotations at :00, :15, :30, :45
- Night: Light show that projects onto the Gundam and surrounding area
- Rain/inclement: Pose rotations may be cancelled; check the Bandai Namco Cross Store for updates
A new Unicorn Gundam statue was added at the same plaza in recent years, alternating with the RX-78-2.
Gundam Base Tokyo
Inside DiverCity, this is Bandai’s flagship Gundam model kit store. Hundreds of Gunpla kits, including event exclusives. Tax-free available.
teamLab Borderless
One of Tokyo’s most visited digital art museums. New Odaiba location is larger than the original. Book tickets two weeks in advance, they sell out.
Palette Town / Venus Fort
The shopping complex has closed for redevelopment as of 2025–26. Check before visiting.
Joypolis
A covered indoor theme park operated by Sega. Features virtual reality rides, rhythm game experiences, and Sonic-themed attractions. ¥4,500 day pass.
Diamond Head
A small indoor climbing facility with an artificial volcano. Surprisingly fun.
Getting Around
- Yurikamome: From Shimbashi. Best views, runs along the Rainbow Bridge.
- Rinkai Line: From Shinjuku. Faster, no views.
- Bus: Serves the area if the trains are crowded.
