The second week of August is usually a quiet stretch, but three big things are breaking open this week and they cover very different corners of the otaku map. I checked the official pages for all three and they are live as of today. One is a hands-on experience you actually play, one is a fashion-forward pop-up, and one is a collab café. All indoors, which helps in the summer heat.

JUJUTSU KAISEN WORLD at Bandai Namco Cross Store (Ikebukuro)

The headline is all the way in, opening today, August 7. JUJUTSU KAISEN WORLD is the hands-on Jujutsu Kaisen event, and the Tokyo run sits at Bandai Namco Cross Store Tokyo in Sunshine City Ikebukuro until September 27. Entry is free, so you can wander the photo spots and displays without paying, then pay per station when you want to play.

The main draw is the training-school experience (呪術高専体験入学), where you take on an exorcism mission alongside the cast and get a report on how you did. That runs about 1,100 yen a round. Three prize games cost 700 yen each: Fushiguro’s bunny fortune game, Kugisaki’s nail roulette, and Inumaki’s onigiri gacha. Brand-new merchandise drawn for the event goes from around 660 yen up, plus themed desserts. Expect the whole thing to move fast, so go early.

It is two minutes from Ikebukuro station at Sunshine City’s World Import Mart building on the 3rd floor. No reservation is needed to enter, though popular stations can queue.

The Ghost in the Shell pop-up at Ginza Tsutaya

The new Ghost in the Shell TV anime, produced by Science SARU, has been airing since July 7 on Kantele and Fuji TV Tuesday nights, and the merchandise push starts this weekend with a pop-up store at the Ginza Tsutaya outlet inside GINZA SIX on the 6th floor. It runs August 8 to August 27 and is free, like any pop-up inside a bookshop.

The theme label is “CYBERPUNK DAILY STYLE” and it leans into the everyday: apparel, stationery, and smaller lifestyle goods with that clean, future-facing look The Ghost in the Shell has carried since Shirow Masamune’s original manga. It’s the kind of store you can browse without an appointment, which is rare for a big franchise pop-up in summer. Shop hours follow the bookshop, roughly 11:00 to 20:00 with a heads up that weekends get busy because GINZA SIX is heavy foot traffic area.

Ginza station is the closest, with A4 and B1 exits connecting directly. The official event page notes the schedule can change per store (Kyoto Tsutaya holds a run too), so the day before is worth a check.

Sho-Comi fest at 洒落CAFE Shinjuku

For the shoujo manga fans, the Sho-Comi fest is a collab café running now through August 23 at 洒落CAFE in the Shinjuku Marui Main Store, on the 8th floor. It pairs the bimonthly manga magazine Sho-Comi with limited menu and goods, and the real draw is the signings and tea parties (サイン会, お茶会) held nearly every weekend with the magazine’s authors. August 8 and 9 have sessions, then again on August 15, 16, 22, and 23.

The café hours are 11:00 to 21:00 with the collab menu until 20:00. Unlike a normal café you cannot always just walk in on an event day, the signings and tea parties run on a lottery and first-come reservation system booked through the operator. If you just want the café itself, arriving early or midweek tends to give a shorter wait. Shinjuku station east exit is a short walk.

Getting around

All three are indoors and close to JR stations, which matters more than the price in August. Ikebukuro and Shinjuku both run late if you want to add dinner after, while GINZA SIX keeps its set closing. English assistance is thin at all three by the nature of the venues, but free entry to the Cross Store and the pop-up means you can judge quality inside before committing cash. Bring the brand names straight off these official pages and you will be pointed the right way.
